WebApr 15, 2024 · Re: Does a barbarian need great weapon master? Feats are never necessary. 5e has been designed from level 1 to 20 with the mindset that players have zero magic items or feats. They certainly are great, but those things are never needed to be effective in combat or role play scenarios. With that in mind, your plan sounds great. WebA big problem is the feat Great Weapon Master, which itself is too strong because of how much of a DPR boost it gives. In the hands of a Barbarian though it's downright broken because of Reckless Attack, as you saw. Without it, Barbarian is still ahead of the pack in combat effectiveness, but not so significantly.
